Removable tinplate lid: the metal end is the lid
In the removable route, the top tinplate component plugs the inner opening and wraps the tube’s outer edge to hold its position. The user removes and replaces that metal component directly. Folvar’s current modelling rule uses 0.3 mm tinplate, a shallow bottom-end recess of about 2 mm and a removable top-lid recess starting around 10 mm to support insertion and removal. Those values are project starting points and must follow the selected metal component and approved tooling.
Composite peel-seal: the metal top remains fixed
In Folvar’s composite route, the bottom remains a fixed metal end. The upper metal component is also fixed to the body and uses a shallow recess similar to the bottom, starting around 2 mm. A peelable aluminium membrane spans the access opening. The consumer peels the membrane to reach the contents; the fixed metal component is not used as a removable lid.

An overcap is an additional controlled component
A composite top may be left without an overcap, or it may receive a plastic or paper outer lid. A plastic overcap is generally shallow and only needs to sleeve over the metal top. A paper overcap is often deeper and can be designed as an inner-curl or paper-flat component. Its depth, clearance, decoration and opening force should be recorded separately rather than hidden inside the composite-closure label.
Protection claims need product evidence
A peel membrane may be selected when tamper evidence, aroma retention, hygiene or a stronger barrier is being considered. But the construction name does not prove any of those outcomes. The membrane specification, sealing process, product compatibility, intended shelf life, transport conditions and required tests determine performance. Terms such as airtight, moisture-proof or food-safe should not be published or printed until the supporting evidence and applicable review are complete.
Food-contact projects carry a separate compliance gate
For products sold in the EU, paper, metal, coatings, adhesives, inks and membranes that are intended to contact food fall within the food-contact-material framework. The packaging design team can reserve copy and identify the required evidence, but the responsible business must confirm material declarations, traceability, migration or other testing, and market-specific compliance before production.

- What product-contact, barrier or shelf-life evidence is required?
- Will the fixed top be left exposed or covered by a plastic or paper overcap?

- Does the artwork need to coordinate with a removable metal lid, membrane print or outer overcap?
